Being Present

In our day to day state of being, the demands of the modern world often fight for attention with our inner world.  This happens to such an extent that maintaining true consciousness and presence becomes seemingly impossible.  The work we do spiritually involves creating a balance between the pull of life in the world and a conscious presence – our inner light.

At the core of our spiritual process is the ability to sustain presence, an awareness of the present moment.  Within presence we can find our true divine self.  Being present is space enabling, purifying our consciousness.  This allows qualities such as love, humility, courage, patience, stillness, wisdom and generosity to fill our spirits.  Just as presence is receptive to the energies of possibility, there the ego; with its divisive, conflicting desires and thoughts which ultimately limit us.

Other limiting factors include the old emotional patterns, which we hold on to even long after the circumstance has passed.   These emotions and feelings still live within us as unresolved patterning and interfere and impact in our decisions, actions and life surrounding us.  Often to avoid the unresolved feelings, we will use external objects and activities such as drinking, eating, drugs, shopping, over or under exercising.  Anything to keep from feeling the present feelings or thoughts!

By bringing equanimous attention to one’s thoughts, feelings and actions, we start to perceive their results with a new objectivity.  In doing so, acquiring a new attitude of remembrance and mindfulness and developing a conscious awareness to whatever arises. This refining attention enables the steady collapsing of the false identity and through presence and intention we find our way to becoming our authentic self.
